A CSIC scientist’s ‘viral prediction’ of heat waves

Heat waves are hurting many parts of the world. High temperatures lead to very viral problems such as wildfires, heatstroke and even deaths, among many other environmental problems.

Western Europe is once again facing sweltering temperatures. On the other side of the world, in China, an unprecedented heat wave poses major problems for agriculture. In the UK, the asphalt on airport runways “melts”. Heat waves have bad consequences…

Spanish CSIC scientist Fernando Valladares surprised me today with statements on Radio Televisión Española that predict the behavior of heat waves in the future.

His statements:

Let’s just say that to sum it up, this summer with all the huge and hot things, it may be… it will be one of the coolest we have left of life.

The situation is so huge, we had alerted him for some time and unfortunately the worst climate scenario is the one we have settled into.

We said to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and far from reducing them, we continued to increase them.

Therefore, we put climate change in an exponential dynamic which explains that thermal records, records in general of extreme events, occur with increasing speed.
