Yamaha launches its second generation of electric trials bikes

Motorcycle trials are the ultimate test of skill and control, with riders often jumping over rocks, climbing near-vertical hills or rolling over tight logs on lightweight two-stroke bikes, powerful electric transmissions bidding silent for this discipline.

Yamaha followed up the launch of the TY-E electric trials bike in 2018 with a second-generation prototype, which the company says was designed to give riders more fun than they can get on two-wheeled machines. time they normally see. , and heard, in trials events, take advantage of the appealing characteristics of electric drivetrains such as strong torque and quick acceleration.

The TY-E 2.0 is built around a new monocoque frame design that uses composite laminates to keep it light and stiff, and the bike tops out at 70kg.

Engineers revised the layout of the electric motor and battery to achieve a lower center of gravity than the 2018 model, and the lithium-ion battery has 2.5 times the capacity of the previous one, with a 20% increase in weight.

As before, the setup runs with a flywheel and mechanical multi-plate clutch, but the power unit has been tweaked to improve response and traction.

The only other key detail Yamaha has shared at this point is a minimum ground clearance of 340mm.

This electric trials bike will compete in select events of the 2022 Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme World Trials Championship starting in June.
