XPeng’s X2 electric flying car makes first public flight in Dubai

XPeng’s urban air mobility (UAM) company, AeroHT, has completed the first flight of its electric flying car, the XPeng X2, at Skydive Dubai. The fifth-generation X2 “flying car” successfully took off, flew and landed publicly during the Dubai demonstration.

The X2 is a two-person electric vertical take-off (eVTOL) flying car powered by 8 propeller motors, two at each corner of the vehicle.

The plane has a top speed of 130 km/h and estimated flight time of 35 minutes.

It is designed to reach a height of 975 meters, although it will most likely reach a cruising height of around 90 meters. The vehicle has two driving modes: automatic and manual. During autonomous flight, passengers can enjoy a safe and intelligent flight experience with easy start, return and landing operations at the touch of a button.

For the first time, the X2 adopts an enclosed cockpit with a minimalist teardrop design and sci-fi look that takes into account high-efficiency aerodynamics for maximum flight performance. To reduce weight, the XPeng X2 has a full carbon fiber frame.

Being electric, the X2 flying car does not emit any polluting gases during use, according to Xpeng. The objective is to offer it for low-rise journeys in large urban centers. Chinese companies believe it would be “perfect” for short-distance urban travel, such as sightseeing and transporting medical supplies.

The first public test flight was attended by 150 guests, including representatives from the Chinese Consulate in Dubai, Dubai International Chamber of Commerce, DCAA, Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, Dubai World Trade Center Dubai and media from around the world. .

The flight was one of the highlights of Gitex Global 2022, one of the world’s biggest innovation and technology shows, which kicked off on October 10 in the Arab city. The event brings together more than 5,000 exhibitors and plans to attract more than 100,000 visitors from 170 countries, where the most advanced companies and the best minds converge to delve into various technological topics, including the mobility of the future.

The public display of the XPeng X2 in Dubai represents a milestone for XPeng AeroHT and the international realization of flying cars. Dubai is a world famous “City of Innovation”, which is why we decided to hold the first X2 public flight event there. Today’s flight is an important step in XPENG’s exploration of future mobility.

XPeng AeroHT will unveil crucial achievements of the sixth-generation flying car’s R&D progress, including configuration, exterior design and aerial driving method, at this year’s 1024 XPeng Tech Day.

Capable of rolling through the air and on the road, this next-generation electric flying car represents a true transition from two-dimensional to three-dimensional mobility.
