A DIY kit for a wooden house, a house that can be built almost as easily as you assemble LEGOs.
Belgian Gabriel Lakatos was a big fan of LEGO bricks as a child. It seems that this passion never left him, because a quarter of a century later, the construction expert has developed a simple and effective system of wooden houses.

LEGO-like wooden houses.
Gablok is the name of his company, founded in 2019 with the aim of offering a fun and easy-to-use product for everyone. According to the inventor, anyone who can assemble a piece of furniture, for example from Ikea, can also assemble a Gablok house.
The concept essentially consists of self-supporting blocks, an adapted floor system, beams and insulated lintels.
In total, only eight elements are needed to build the wooden house. And here’s how it works:
- The client draws up the plans for the house of his dreams with his architect.
- These building plans are suitable for the self-build system.
- The individual elements are delivered directly to the construction site together with the assembly plan.
- The customer assembles the wooden elements according to the plan and fixes them with the beams provided. The weight of a block of wood is between 7 and 9 kg, so a crane or other additional help is not necessary. The construction also does not require drying time and therefore saves a lot of time. No waste is generated because each component has its uses.
- When the structure is complete, it is finished with the roof and the appropriate surface treatment.
- Finally, the windows and doors are installed.
- The blocks are prepared for the installation of housing services (electricity, toilets, etc.) so that these works can be carried out quickly and easily.
The only drawback of the system is that Gablok currently only offers its LEGO-type house in Belgium.
