Ecological cleaning without toxic and without spending more.
Hello friends, today we are going to talk in depth about green cleaning. Ecological cleaning is not something new and it is very simple and was already practiced by our grandmothers.
There is no need to spend on expensive products, you just need to know how to apply 3 or 4 basic products and how to combine them and that is what this guide is all about.
Practically any stains or dirt can be effectively treated with products such as baking soda, lemon juice, vinegar, borax, homemade soap and tea tree oil.
Almost all household cleaning products are made with toxic substances for health and the environment. Dyes, artificial fragrances, corrosive products such as bleach or ammonia and so-called antibacterial agents, all unnecessary and polluting.
The arsenal of chemicals used as cleaning products causes air pollution due to toxic gases that can irritate the eyes and lungs; water contamination it should not be forgotten that these products in one form or another generally end up in the water network and then in the treatment plant in the best case or directly in the sea or on land in the areas without sanitation.
Attention I say toxic substances because they are almost all chemical substances and we will use several of them, such as sodium bicarbonate or borax, which are in themselves chemicals, we do not have to have chemophobia, try simply to use those chemicals that are not toxic to us or the environment in general.
This guide helps you do safe, toxic-free household cleaning.
Basic products for ecological cleaning of the house.
These are two basic or all-purpose cleaners that are used to clean absolutely everything.
Ecological multi-purpose cleaner, antibacterial foolproof.
It’s the one I use the most, it’s used for all the kitchen, the bathroom, the oil, whatever you put in front of it, it cleans it.
20% vinegar (white or apple). 30% cleaning alcohol (blue alcohol). 50% distilled water (this can be boiled tap water). 20 drops of lemon essential oil.
We mix everything and put it in a spray bottle and voila, we can dilute it with water if necessary, it’s very effective.
My grandmother’s ecological cleanser:
This cleaner is based on our handmade soap made with used oil, high quality and highly eco-friendly, while preventing oil from ending up where it shouldn’t.
If we don’t have our handmade soap, we can use any traditional soap bar (in Spain Lagarto) like the one used by our grandmothers, which are perfectly biodegradable.
- Grated soap flakes (this is done on the same grater as cheese).
We take a liter glass bottle or whatever we have on hand and mix the handmade soap flakes with the water using a ratio of one to ten (100g of soap to 1 liter of ‘water).
Let stand and stir often so that it dissolves, it should obtain a liquid but thick consistency.
This cleaner is used to shine all types of surfaces.
Clean floors and windows.
Natural cleaning of windows and mirrors.
Leaving crystals and mirrors sparkling is easy with this powerful natural glass cleaner.
- ½ liter of water.
- 1 tablespoon of the ecological cleaner that we saw in the first recipe.
- 1 tablespoon of vinegar.
Clean the surface with a cloth or sponge using the mixture, then dry with newspaper.
Easy window cleaning.
In a spray bottle, half water and half white vinegar, spray the glass and dry with newspaper.
Eco-friendly carpet cleaning.
First, to clean the mat, hang it outside if possible and shake off the dust well.
Then we dissolve 50 grams of borax in half a liter of water. With a large sponge if you have one and gloves, since borax is a little toxic (but much less than any carpet cleaner) clean the carpet with the mixture, rinse with the sponge only with water and let dry in the sun.
Ecological floor cleaner.
Normally, all you need to do is pour a good squirt of white vinegar into the mop bucket and warm water.
But if this mixture of natural products does not seem sufficient to you, we will obtain the same cleaning and disinfection as with the toxic ones that they sell in the supermarket.
- 3 tablespoons of the multi-purpose eco-friendly cleaner we saw at the start.
- 5 tablespoons of white or apple vinegar.
- 30 drops of tea tree essential oil.
Put this mixture in the mop bucket and clean as usual.
Clean the kitchen.
Ecological cleaner for counter (kitchen counter).
To eliminate bacteria, viruses or fungi without the need for toxins, simply mix:
- ½ liter of water.
- 2 tablespoons of the multi-purpose ecological cleaner from the beginning.
- 30 drops of tea tree essential oil (available at health food stores or organic stores).
With a scouring pad (sponge), we will wash the surface of the countertop well, then simply rinse with water and dry with a cloth.
To make your saucepan look like new, first throw in a good drizzle of boiling water then rub the inside of it with lemon zest or any other citrus fruit.
Eco-friendly oven cleaner
Oven cleaners are one of the cleaning products containing the most toxic ingredients, such as ethers, sodium and potassium hydroxide, methylene chloride and petroleum derivatives, among others.
They can irritate the skin and eyes, cause respiratory problems in allergy sufferers, and all according to the label of the product itself.
Luckily, you can make your oven look like new again simply by cleaning it regularly with all-purpose cleaner from the start.
But if things are more serious, make a thick paste with warm water and baking soda, then apply it to the oven surface, let it dry for two hours. Finally we clean this paste with a cloth with lukewarm water and that’s it.
If you want to see more detail: How to clean the oven without toxic where I describe the process in depth.
Porcelain & Tile Cleaner
You have to mix it with water and lemon juice. Soak a cloth well in the mixture and run it in a circle over the tiles. Dry with a clean cloth and that’s it.
Clean the toilet.
To keep the toilet clean, it is useful to use vinegar or borax, the latter has a very low degree of toxicity, so always wear gloves.
Spray the toilet and leave it overnight; the next day, spray the ecological multi-purpose cleaner and scrub vigorously. Rinse with plenty of water and you’re done.
2 cups baking soda 4 cups boiling water 1 cup white vinegar or whatever we have.
About how it is done, I leave you a complete post where all my experience is, which thanks to my three small and adorable children is a lot: Natural piston.
To clean the furniture.
I normally use my all-purpose cleaner, but you can make a more specific one.
- 2 cups of water.
- 1/4 cup white apple cider vinegar.
- 2 teaspoons of olive oil.
Mix and put in a spray bottle, apply and dry with a cloth.
Clean clothes let’s talk about soaps and fabric softeners.
Simply a dash of white or apple cider vinegar, any doubts you have about vinegar as a fabric softener I leave you a post where I describe all my experience with this method: Ecological fabric softener.
I use my bleach or ash water, I leave you a post and a video on: Detergent for the washing machine, Free.
You can also use used oil soap, grated then dissolved in a little warm water. The ingredients for this are:
- Used oil soap or lizard type soap bar about 150 grams.
- Three liters of water.
- Four tablespoons of baking soda.
First we grate the soap, then we put the water in a saucepan to heat when it is very hot, but without boiling we add the soap, we mix well and we add little by little, it lasts about 5 minutes, then add baking soda.
Then leave to cool and compress. Approximately 100ml is used for a full wash load.
As you can see, no need for expensive toxins in colored bottles to clean the house, it can be done very simply with a few products that do not pollute or harm our health. If you liked the article, comment and share it, which is the way for this valuable information to reach more people.
